I don’t write to be famous, I don’t write to be known, I write because I am and I want to be read. How sad to fill a room with paintings no one sees or play music no one hears. Writing is talking without sound, singing without score and dancing without movement and yet, it is all of them. It is a solitary art conjured from thought and expressed by the need to communicate.

HEAD SLAPS, SPEED BUMPS and LIGHTBULBS, one woman's WTF, oops and ah-ha moments of life.

They were published once, and as every writer knows, once is not enough.

Port side only, thank you very much

Haven't posted in awhile because I have had a bit of a medical setback. Started experiencing right hand pain, not related to writing but related to doing something stupid at work, I think. Got to the point where a 4am emergency room visit seemed warranted. So now I'm splinted and pretty much hunting and pecking with a very overused and now sore left hand. (I'm right handed.)
I am adamant about continuing to work on my novel so this post is short and probably one of only a future few until my hand heals.
My husband says there are two kinds of people in the world, those that are left handed and those that want to be. Yup, he's a leftie and so am I until this thing takes care of itself.

Have you ever been forced to use the side less able?

  1. (((hugs))) 2Ns. I hope you have a speedy and full recovery. Can you use voice to text? I know MSWord has one built in (somewhere).

Many moons ago when I was but a little munchkin (grade 4 or 5) I was doing the obstacle course with my class. I'd never gone down the rope from the top of the climbing structure (always went down the net cause I was worried about the rope). The teacher called me on it and I had to go down the rope. I had good reason to be nervous! I slid down and tore all the skin off my right hand! I was a lefty for a few weeks - although back in the day there were no computers so it was all handwriting. It looked liked a chicken had scratched some ink and walked across my page.

And then (so I might be a "little" accident prone) when I was at uni I managed to get serious burns to my right hand (an unfortunate incident between me and the BBQ). Bummer for me it was right before exam time and I had to do exams dictating to a lab assistant. Embarrassing when I didn't know an answer and had to admit it to them!

    1. I have used voice to text, it's funny really. When trying it out on my WIP I realized that what I speak writes pretty well, if the voice gets it right. I used it awhile back too, when I was transcribing old columns and op-eds for a memoir. It's pretty amazing.
OMG your slide down the rope, I hope you teacher was lambasted for making you do it. And the BBQ, well, since you were college age we can just chalk that up to age-appropriate-stupid-behavior. I say that with jest because stupid stuff always happens when we're that age.

  2. My problems tend to be in my legs/feet, which I realize is from running. So, I've had the stress fractures, and the plantar fasciitis, and some other odd swelling now in the left foot that has been around for months, maybe over a year. And I have a quirky lower back issue.

I feel structurally sound on most days. Sort of.

I'm sorry to hear about your injury! Hopefully you'll soon be back to pecking at top speed! :)

    1. OMG I had plantar fasciitis when I first started my job ten years ago. I'm on my feet, on some days, up to 8 hours, so my feet ruled my life. Once I found the right shoes, and continue to buy new ones every two months, I can walk ten miles a day. I do 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 miles walking a day. Jeez I should be a size 4. Jeez I should find another job. Jeez I should retire. Jeez...

  3. Carolynn, you probably feel much better by now. Still, I'm sending many many blessings your way and many hugs. Also, I want you to know that I've missed you. And that you are in my thoughts and in my heart!

PS I saw a FB post that said "Ask your dreams to heal you." I always forget to do this, but I think that it's fascinating and that it could work. I would just add the word "gently."

    1. Hey Lilac, thanks for stopping by. Your words are very kind.

Today is actually the first day I will be off the splint. I'm scared I'll do something stupid and be back to square one. But, there comes a time when you just have to jump and trust in the process, "gently".

  4. That's great that today is your first day without the splint! I hope that you have a gentle day, and I apologize for finding out about this on such a late date. Sometimes I don't get to read the comments on Janet's blog, and it saddens me.

You are always welcome to send me an email if you need extra blessings. And I wish you were on FB as well. The same goes for Anita!

It's via FB that I also stay updated when it comes to Janet and Donna. Plus, FB reminds me of everyone's birthday, which brings to mind that you are a Libra. So happy belated birthday, my brilliant writer friend! May all your sweet dreams come true! :-)
